On the 20 August 2019, Year 7 and 9 students had the opportunity to engage with the award winning and well renowned author Boori Monty Pryor. At the start of term 3, students started reading ‘The Binna Binna Man’. Our students developed a strong connection with the book, which tells a powerful story of an Aboriginal teenage boy who is caught between the attractions of city life and the ways of his people.
Our students were also able to explore issues related to healing the past and creating positive visions for the future, issues of finding strength within to deal with the challenges from without, optimism and finding a basis for mutual, and self-respect. The students also enjoyed a Didgeridoo performance and practised with Boori Monty Pryor the skills required for a Didgeridoo.
