Our History

Al Noori Muslim School was founded in the early 1980s by a group of visionary community leaders who recognised the need for an Islamic school that would provide both academic excellence and strong faith-based education.

As the first Islamic school established in New South Wales, the school began in 1983 in a small house in Lakemba, with a small group of students and dedicated teachers. Despite limited resources, the school community was united by a shared vision — to establish a school grounded in Islamic values and committed to excellence.

Over the following years, the school relocated several times as it grew, reflecting both its rapid expansion and the determination of the community to secure a permanent home. In 1987, the school was established in Greenacre, where it continues to serve its community today.

As enrolments increased, the school expanded to include a Secondary campus, with the first Year 7 cohort commencing in 2009. Continued investment in facilities and educational programs led to the opening of a purpose-built Secondary campus in 2013.

Today, Al Noori Muslim School is recognised as one of the largest and most established Islamic schools in New South Wales, with a strong reputation for academic achievement and community engagement.

The school continues to contribute to the broader community through meaningful and innovative initiatives. These include its connection to the Islamic Museum of Australia, which promotes greater understanding of Islamic history, art and culture, and participation in projects such as “Winds of Change”, an augmented reality (AR) program that shares stories of identity, migration and the contributions of Muslim Australians.

Through these initiatives, Al Noori Muslim School extends learning beyond the classroom, encouraging students to engage with their heritage, reflect on their identity and contribute positively to Australian society.

Guided by its history and values, Al Noori Muslim School continues to grow and evolve, preparing future generations of students to learn, lead and succeed.
